Family Features Game day is no time to be sidelined in the kitchen. Do a little pre-game planning so you can spend less time cooking and more time cheering on the home team. Keep it simple -- Instead of taking up space with a lot of dishes to hold condiments, use muffin pans. Each well in the pans can hold a different topping for your burgers, hot dogs or chili. Put a spoon in each for easy dipping. It's simple, fun, and you'll have fewer post-game dishes to wash... -
Suddenly a soup fan
(Column ~ 08/24/12)
As Declan waved to me and waddled his way across the school playground, excitedly beginning his first day of school recently, it occurred to me that not too much had changed since his first day of kindergarten a year ago. He was still the same excitable little guy, shy of two front teeth and maybe an inch taller, but otherwise the same...

The end and the beginning
(Column ~ 08/24/12)

Please keep your eyes on the road
(Letter to the Editor ~ 08/24/12)
Dear Editor, This is a message to the young lady who was talking to her child in the back seat, ran the stop sign, and was one second away from running over me on my motorcycle. You looked me right in the eye as you went by andmouthed some words like "I'm so sorry," and drove on. I should have followed you and spoke to you personally. Instead, please heed these words and don't ever forget them...

Well done
(Letter to the Editor ~ 08/24/12)
To the citizens and council of McCook, A couple of weeks ago I wrote a letter that hammered the council and citizens of McCook pretty hard for the direction the council was heading. I always try to look at things from the outside looking in and rely on simple common sense to lead the way...

Hating the haters (Column ~ 08/24/12)
Several years ago, on the courthouse steps of the town in which I lived, there was a rally. A homosexual couple in our community was seeking to become foster parents. You can imagine the kickback that erupted in a small Southern town. But it wasn't just the members of our community who were most vocal in protest. Gathered on the courthouse steps of our fair city were representatives of a religious group from Washington D.C. and points beyond, to speak out in holy fury... -
