GRANT, Nebraska -- Ruth Werner, 89, died Tuesday (Sept. 7, 2010) at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant. She worked at home before helping run Werner Paint and Tile in Grant with her husband and son. Jan. 24, 1936-Sept. 6, 2010 BARTLEY, Nebraska -- Duane I. Phillips, 74, died Monday (Sept. 6, 2010) at McCook Community Hospital. Duane was born on Jan. 24, 1936 in Fullerton, Nebraska to Irving D. and Mildred (Snodgrass) Phillips. He graduated from Central City High School in 1953. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1955 and worked in electronics, radar, gun sights and mechanics for F-105 fighter jets. He served for 13 years until his honorable discharge...

It was good McCook City Council honored a request from the McCook Humane Society for $3,000 to help keep the animal shelter in operation. With the money, however, came a legitimate question from Councilman Jerry Calvin: Why do McCook taxpayers have to pay to take care animal problems throughout Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas?...
