WAUNETA -- The McCook Junior B's American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader with Wauneta Tuesday night at Wauneta. Wauneta won the first game 5-4 and the Junior B's rolled to a 19-3 win in the second game. McCook's record is 9-8. In the first game, the score was tied 2-2 entering the sixth inning. McCook scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. Wauneta scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the game... -
MCC's Robinson accepts top softball post at York

One season after leading McCook Community College to its best ever softball record, coach Tyrone Robinson is leaving McCook to head the York College program. At the MCC helm, Robinson led the Indians to a 30-win season in 2008 -- most in school history -- as well as the program's first winning season...

MS walkers set new record (Local News ~ 06/18/08)
More than 70 walkers raised a record $5,000 for the National Muscular Sclerosis Society June 7 in Norris Park. Walkers came not only from McCook but from Culbertson, Trenton, Ogallala, North Platte, Hastings, Lincoln and Omaha, thrilling organizer Joann Nemechek. "We had so many new walkers this year, It was just great." Funds will be used for research and support, with 60 percent of the proceeds remaining in the community, assisting those afflicted with MS and their caregivers... -

Downed tree (Local News ~ 06/18/08)
Pat Foley examines a 100-year old hackberry tree that fell sideways into her yard during last night's thunderstorm. The 80-100 foot tall tree, owned by Judy Stevens at 706 W. Fourth, came down about 12:30 a.m. on top of a power line and briefly knocked out electricity, said a representative of Nebraska Public Power. A cottonwood tree in Foley's yard stopped the the tree from completely hitting the ground but "Angels were watching over us," Foley said... -
