MNB Seniors pitching trio slams door on Cambridge (Community Sports ~ 06/16/05)
CAMBRIDGE -- A five-day span without any games doesn't happen very often for the McCook National Bank American Legion Seniors baseball team. This last week was one of those rare occurrences. The Seniors had planned to go to a tournament in Crete, but the large amounts of rainfall canceled the tournament... -
Reservoirs filling; drought effects remain
(Local News ~ 06/16/05)
CURTIS -- Recent rainfalls are filling area reservoirs, but it will be years before Southwest Nebraska irrigators make up for the first years of the drought, a Natural Resources Manager said. In a monthly reservoir report from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Middle Republican NRD Manager Dan Smith told the NRD Board of Directors that with the recent intensive rainfall, peaks at Cambridge and Orleans exceeded the historical record. ...

Flathead Fords -- Club keeps vintage V-8s on the road (Features ~ 06/16/05)
By Connie Jo Discoe Regional editor When these cars were new, the center line of American highways was white. "You've heard of 'white-line fever'?," Louis Mraz of Aurora, Colo., asked. Waiting, worrying, guessing
(Editorial ~ 06/16/05)

Almost time for Farmers Market

No cream pies or baked goods which require refrigeration will be allowed. Inspected meat vendors must be approved and provide refrigeration...

Futile engagement
(Letter to the Editor ~ 06/16/05)
**Dear Editor, It's obvious that exchanging jabs will change nobody's mind so it is futile to engage. I think we all will agree that the U.S. was attacked on September 11 by terrorists. They don't like us. If the U.S. military doesn't pursue the attackers, they would most likely attack again. If we pursue the attackers it requires "invading" somebody and terrorists know no borders. They seem to be welcome in many places...

Ahhh! Spring in Virginia. Yeah, right! I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting when I joined my son for the final leg of his cross-country trip to the east coast, but it certainly wasn't temperatures reaching into the upper 90s and humidity of 132 percent...
