As health care bill proceeds, still much to do

On Saturday, the motion to proceed to debate on the Senate's health care reform bill passed on a 60-39 vote. Next, amendments will be offered and voted on, then the Senate must vote to end the debate, which will also require 60 votes. Although this was the first step in the bill's approval process, studies show that 97 percent of bills become law after this type of vote passes. ...

She was born May 13, 1918, to Charlie and Lucy Farrell in Republican City, on her grandparents' farm. She was the oldest of three brothers and two sisters. One sister and one brother died as infants. Federal road funding on track

The "responsible charge person" for Red Willow County assured commissioners during their meeting Monday morning that the county's documentation on federal aid and federal stimulus road projects is "on track and moving forward." Karl Elmshaeuser of the West Central Nebraska Development District in Ogallala and Red Willow County's "RC person" for federal aid road projects, told commissioners it seems that the process that the federal government requires recipients to follow for stimulus-funded projects "is being defined as we go along." McNutt said, "We're six months into this, and they're still changing the process." Fellow commissioner Leigh Hoyt said, "Just about a year ago, the stimulus programs started, and there's still no money for transportation projects.". ...

LINCOLN -- Humphrey St. Francis seemed to to be a step quicker than Hayes Center during the Class D-2 state high school football championship game Monday. The Flyers blanked Hayes Center 34-0 in the D-1 title game at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
