Even in 1903, McCook's Main Street merchants were complaining of petty thievery on the part of school children. The Tribune recommended, "Keep the children off the streets, consequently out of the stores, and away from temptation." Another little admonition I found in the March 13, 1903, Tribune said, "There is a disgusting amount of 'scrapping' among the little school children-the boys of course-which parents might stop with a little effort at discouraging the idea. ... -

One of life's greatest dilemmas is what to do when our logic and rationality tell us to do one thing while our emotions are telling us to do the opposite. This can happen to us in any area of our lives at any time. What we're all looking for is a guideline to use. Is one of these options consistently more reliable than the other?
