McCook's annual Heritage Days promises to be a great celebration again this year, according to the McCook Chamber of Commerce. "Heartland of America," Sept. 25-29, will feature many of the old favorites -- such as the parade down Norris Avenue and the craft fair in Norris Park -- and have a few new events to add to the list of things to do -- such as the Cowboy Poetry Contest on Friday night at the Fox Theater...

Dear Editor, Thank you for running the story on Kathy Wilmot and the bill to continue teaching our children about the Pledge of Allegiance and what it stands for. It would be wise to include such discussions as to what the Pledge means in all classrooms, public, private, home school, and ESL classes at all levels. ...

Slot idea stinks
(Column ~ 08/22/02)
Dear Editor, Unless it's shot down by a court challenge, it appears Nebraskans will be voting on legalizing electronic gambling machines. A very good analysis of the proposed amendment was written by Henry J. Cordes in Sunday's World-Herald. He notes that passage of this proposition does more than simply allow slot machines in businesses with liquor licenses...

Special edition tribute to heroes of September 11
(Column ~ 08/22/02)
No matter how long we live ... or how long this nation exists ... we shall not forget the Day of Terror perpetrated upon the United States of America on September 11, 2001. Those men and their hairs (Column ~ 08/22/02)
I've never understood the relationship men have with their hair. I mean as a woman ages, she faces changes as well. She has to put up with wrinkles, gray hair, menopause and the need to tell horrible lies about her age. Women have to put up with the same daily reminders of the aging process as men. Every day they watch the hair coloring, estrogen and wrinkle cream commercials. Men have to put up with commercials about hair loss... -
