Polly Marie (Thomas) Steinke

TRENTON, Neb. - Polly Marie (Thomas) Steinke died Friday, April 4, 2025, at Community Hospital in McCook, at the age of 97.

She was born on Sep. 7, 1927, the daughter of the late Webster and Marjorie (Sharp) Thomas. She grew up on the farm where she was born and graduated from school in Trenton.

On Oct. 9, 1947, she married Wilmer “Bill” G. Steinke. They lived in Trenton where Bill worked for John Deere before moving to a farm north of Trenton where they lived, and dryland farmed for 16 years. They moved back to her family’s irrigated farm where she resided for the rest of her life.

She was a loving; caring person who raised a family and helped raise crops and livestock. She belonged to several clubs and was helpful to neighbors and friends.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Lloyd Warren Steinke; husband, Wilmer “Bill” Steinke; her parents; brother, Laverne “Verne” Thomas; sister, Mardelle (Thomas) Brown; six brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her son, John W. Steinke; sister-in-law, Heather Thomas; special family, Doug and Bonnie Nitzkorski, Brad and Natalie Stokes and family, Gunnar and Heather Nitzorski and family, Bill and Kathy Donze and family, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.

Funeral Services for are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday April 12, 2025, at the Trenton Methodist Church with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating. Interment will follow at Trenton Cemetery.
