Drugs and alcohol not ruled out in accident injuring three
McCOOK, Neb. — Drugs and alcohol have not been ruled out as a factor involved in a motor vehicle collision on March 23.
According to a press release from Michael Jordan, Frontier County Sheriff, at around 3:39 p.m., an accident occurred on U.S. Highway 83 near the Red Willow-Frontier County line. Preliminary investigation shows a southbound Nissan Altima crossed over the center line and onto the northbound land shoulder, colliding head-on with a northbound Dodge pickup and trailer. The Nissan came to rest in the east side ditch and the Dodge pickup came to rest on its top on the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 83.
Marc Harpham, McCook Fire and Rescue Chief, said two victims of the accident with serious injuries were transferred to Community Hospital of McCook, with a third victim transferred by Frontier County.
The investigation is ongoing and no names will be released at this time. Charges for the driver of the Nissan are pending completion of the investigation. More information will be released from the Frontier County Sheriff’s office as it becomes available
Those responding to the accident were Red Willow Western Fire Department, Maywood-Wellfleet Fire District, Frontier County EMS, McCook Fire and Rescue, Nebraska State Patrol and Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office.
