Terps' heroic final shot sends four Big Ten teams to Sweet 16

After a red hot start to the NCAA Tournament, the Big Ten cooled off slightly over the weekend. However, the conference will still be well represented in the March Madness regionals, sending four teams to the Sweet 16.

On Saturday, Purdue was the first Big Ten team to punch their ticket to the second weekend of the tournament. They did so with a wire-to-wire win over McNeese, who upset Clemson in the first round.

Later that afternoon, Big Ten Tournament champion Michigan also advanced to the Sweet 16. The Wolverines came back from a double-digit second half deficit to knock off Texas A&M.

On Sunday, Maryland won the most exciting game of the tournament thus far. After allowing a Colorado State go-ahead three-pointer with six seconds left, Terrapins freshman Derik Queen hit a buzzer-beater off the backboard to send his team on to San Francisco next weekend.

Then Sunday night, conference regular season champion Michigan State overcame a slow start to avoid an upset from New Mexico and move on to the second weekend. This is the Spartans' 16th Sweet 16 under head coach Tom Izzo, but just their third in the past decade.

As mentioned earlier, Maryland will head to the West Regional in San Francisco. Purdue will play in the Midwest Regional in Indianapolis, while both Michigan and Michigan State will head to the South Regional in Atlanta.
