Bison girls rebound with strong victory over 'Maids

McCOOK, Neb. — No surprise that nobody can keep these good McCook High girls down in the dumps for long.
The Bison brilliantly rebounded from Saturday’s loss to powerhouse Minden with a dominant 60-30 win over visiting Lexington Tuesday night.
Sophomore Cali Crawford’s 25 points were among many mcCook highlights that included:
— The Bison scored 19 fast-break points while not allowing a single one for Lexington in transition;
— Lexington turnovers outnumbered Minutemaid points, 33-30.
— The Bison swiped 25 steals compared to Lexington’s five;
— McCook won the points off turnovers category, 31-7;
The Bison cleared 17 offensive rebounds to Lexington’s eight.
Plus don’t forget what coach Amy Scheil mentioned following this home win: Bison reserves are really playing strong roles.
“They’re really playing well together. I think the starters are doing a great job of getting reserves involved,” Scheil said.
Freshman Alice Weiemer netted five points including one triple off a teammate’s smart assist.
Aspen Hazlitt crashed the glass for three offensive rebounds besides scoring another four points.
Junior Brecken Gale always seemes to be in the middle of causing trouble for opposing guards.
Plus Scheil mentioned senior Megan Miller’s contributions that don’t always appear on a statistics sheet.
“Just the minutes she plays helps us rest Cali (Crawford) inside,” Scheil explained. “And I thought Megan did a good job of being even more aggressive tonight.”
The Bison must be tough as they host North Platte Friday night.
Though the Bulldogs have not been winning, Scheil expects a tough Bulldog opponent well-fed on facing Class A opponennts throughout this season.
