Warrior swipes 13 steals in big win, Eagles keep winning

Some late recaps from weekend area basketball games:

GIRLS

Arapahoe 71, Med Valley 30

ARAPAHOE, Neb. — The Arapahoe Warriors made more steals than allowed points, 32-30, with Suttyn Shafer’s 13 swipes leading this victory Friday night.

Shafer also scored a game-high 18 points as the Warriors continued their strong season (8-5 overall).

Emma Strand was an all-around playmaker whether it was three assists, three steals and five rebounds besides 11 more Warrior points.

Clara Hilker mixed in nine points and four rebounds.

Senior Remmi Stout still delivered a strong 16-point, eight-rebound effort to lead 1-9 Medicine Valley. Oakley Stout worked to score five points, secure three rebounds and deliver three assists.

So. Valley 46, Arapahoe 41

ARAPAHOE, Neb. — The Warriors played those visiting Eagles tough thanks Desi Farner’s 10 points, Cadence Carpenter’s nine, Strand five, HIlker five, and Suttyn Shafer another five points.

Hilker pulled in five rebounds while Strand grabbed three.

Southern Valley (10-2) overcame a 17-8 start behind junior Tori Bose’s 16 points and senior Adi Hunt scoring 15 to go with her eight steals, five assists and nine pass deflections.

Senior Brynn Baily added six points, Vanessa Aguayo five and Brecklyn Hammond four. Hammond finished four-for-four at the free-throw line.

MayHay 67, Paxton 41

PAXTON, Neb. — Sophomore Caylie Softley’s 20 points fueled the RPAC road win for coach Kim Stengel’s team Friday evening.

Senior Reagan Stengel put eight points through the Paxton nets while junior Karissa Stengel finished not far from a triple or even quadruple-double: 10 assists, nine rebounds, seven points and six steals.

Shelton 58, MayHay 42

KEARNEY, Neb. — The Wolves (11-1 record) were picked to play in an annual Nebraska Girls Showcase where they took on recent perennial powerhouse Shelton Saturday.

Karissa Stengel scored 18 points with six rebounds, but the Shelton Bulldogs prevailed 58-42.

Kesli Cox contributed 10 points and six more boards to lead May-Hay, now 11-2 this season.

Southwest 58, Wa-Pa 39

BARTLEY, Neb. — The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos slipped to 4-7 Saturday while Southwest’s girls continue their strong 11-1 season. No other details were obtained.
