Retailer brings bargains to Norris Avenue
McCOOK Neb. – A new retail store has opened in McCook, offering appliances and unique finds to the community. Papa’s Attic, owned by Chris and Katy Kelln, officially launched on Oct. 18, 2024, at 116 Norris Ave.
At Papa’s Attic, customers can find a variety of new appliances, including some scratch-and-dent items, all backed by warranties. In addition to appliances, the store specializes in box store return items and inventory from store closings, providing a diverse selection that includes everything from household goods to tools and toys.
The Kellns have three locations: McCook, Colby, and Norton. Chris emphasizes the importance of customer service and the advantage of having multiple locations. They can easily check other stores for specific items if they’re not in stock. “It’s just a quick phone call or text,” he explained.
Scratched and dented appliances are thoroughly tested for quality and are priced competitively. The Kellns plan to expand their business model by eventually offering delivery services.
After a career in addiction counseling, Chris sought a change. Katy’s remote position allowed the family to relocate. Chris shared, “I loved that field, but after multiple decades, I was tired. So we decided it was time for a change.” Chris explained, “My sister moved to Norton 25 years ago, and while we thought she was crazy at the time, it became a lot more appealing as things changed in Colorado.” They moved to Norton last summer after the Fourth of July.
The family has embraced their new life in Norton, enjoying the company of nearby relatives, including Chris’s sister, aunt, and nephew. While they appreciate their home in Norton, they plan to move to McCook.
As they settle into their new roles, the Kellns remain committed to providing essential products while prioritizing family and personal well-being. Chris reflected, “If we can help someone acquire what they need at a lower cost, it may give them more time or resources for other important aspects of their lives.” Papa’s Attic is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
