PAXTON, Neb. — Maywood-Hayes Center definitely worked some holiday overtime to take home the Paxton Tournament championship Monday evening.

Down seven through the first eight minutes, coach Kolby Hamilton’s boys rallied and forced OT before scoring a 49-46 overtime victory over Garden County.

The Wolves (7-2 overall) worked an extra four minutes just two nights earlier for a 42-39 semifinal win over hostPaxton.

They joined the MayHay girls (8-1) for a clean sweep with their 4-0 holiday performance at Paxton.

Yet it was never easy on the boys’ side.

They still trailed 32-29 through three quarters before Charlie Callis, Grady Erickson and Jaxson Anders fueled their comeback win.

The trio only made 10 of 34 field goals overall but sophomore Oliver Anders also pulled down 10 rebounds to give May-Hay some extra scoring chances.

Erickson and Callis both eventually tallied 10 points to go with Anders’ nine.

Kade Broz dropped the pre-New Year’s ball through enough nets for eight points.

Sawyer Dibbern slipped through another six and Oliver Anders five.

The Wolves’ defense featured eight players teaming for 17 steals.

Dibbern swiped four and Erickson three.

Senior Kody Schwenk, Callis, Broz and Oliver Anders added two steals apiece.

Against always tough Paxton, the Wolves trailed 30-24 through three periods leading into a super 13-7 surge.

They only permitted Paxton two more points in OT for the semifinal victory.
