Marlin Gale Springer

Jan. 4, 1950 - Dec. 29, 2024

McCOOK, Neb. - Marlin Gale Springer was born on Jan. 4, 1950 in Rural Danbury, Neb. to Cloyce D. and Bertha Margaret (Goltl) Springer. Marlin spent almost all his life making friendships and raising a family in the Danbury community, a fact that he was very proud of. He graduated with the Beaver Valley High School class of 1968 and extended his education at McCook Community College.

Marlin married Pamela Lynn Duncan in Nov. of 1970 and to this union three children were born, Jeff, Bopper and Ben. Marlin and Pam would later divorce. In 2000, Marlin and Denise Scellin began a relationship that would last the rest of Marlin’s life, and which would happily add Jessica to the family.

Marlin was a lifelong farmer and rancher, proudly caring for the same land that had been in the family for generations. In addition to farming, he worked for Springer Magrath, formerly known as Great Plains, for over forty years. Working his way up to ownership in 1990. The company manufactured and distributed stock prods and other veterinary supplies all over the world. In 1994 Marlin also became the owner of Harmon Grains. He continued to work the Springer Farms with his boys, Jeff and Ben into the final years of his life.

In addition to having a good work ethic, volunteering was also important to Marlin. During his life he served in countless capacities in Danbury and the surrounding communities; he was a member of the Hillcrest Board of Directors for 16 years.

Marlin enjoyed playing pool and in his younger years, played on many area softball teams. His passion for fastpitch softball would evolve into a love of coaching the game. Marlin coached countless area girls and made many lifelong friendships with their parents and opposing coaches. Marlin and Denise loved following and attending the many activities and sporting events of their grandchildren, seldom missing an opportunity to be there in person. They also enjoyed the time spent at their cabin in Colorado.
