KEARNEY, Neb. - Jude Robert Byrne, age 87, formerly of McCook passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024 at Prairie View Gardens Retirement Community in Kearney.

Jude was born on June 7, 1937 in Denver, Colo. to Gerald J. and Pearl A. (Flagello) Byrne. He was one of five children born to this union.

Jude graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1955. He married M. Eileen Harris on June 22, 1958 in McCook, NE. The couple had three children.

Jude worked for the United States Post Office in McCook for many years until his retirement. Always seeking new challenges and not quite ready to give up working, he then relocated to Grand Island, Nebraska where he began a career in the meat packing industry. Upon leaving that career he took a job which he loved at the Grand Island Walmart where he stayed until his final retirement.

Jude was a member of the First Congregational Church in McCook. He was a past member of the Elks Club and the Kiwanis Club in McCook. Jude enjoyed fishing and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker Fan.

Jude was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lisa Bristow; one brother, Thomas Byrne; one granddaughter, Tianna Ortiz; and three great grandchildren.

Jude is survived by his wife, M. Eillen Byrne of Kearney, Neb.; son, Dennis (Juli) Byrne of Gibbon, Neb.; daughter, Suzette (Jeremy) Dutcher of Trenton, Neb.; son-in-law, Kevin Bristow of Kearney, NE; two brothers, Bill Byrne of Denver, Colo. and Bob Byrne of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one sister, Rita Boothe of Denver, Colo. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday January 5, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, 305 West C Street, McCook, Neb.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
