July 30, 1950 - Dec. 19, 2024
OBERLIN, Kan. - Peggy Ann Carswell, age 74, of Oberlin, Kansas, gracefully passed away surrounded by family at Decatur Health on Dec. 19, 2024.
Peggy was born on July 30, 1950, to William Jasper “W.J.” Light and Geneva Mardelle Light in Hugoton, Kan. Peggy was raised in Rolla, Kan., where she attended and graduated from Rolla High School in 1968. After high school, Peggy attended the University of Kansas. She then transferred to Pittsburg State University, where she met and married Richard Lee Perry in 1970. Having three beautiful children: Richie Lee, Michael Ryan and Emily DiAnne, Richard and Peggy separated. Peggy then married her lifetime partner Vince Carswell on Aug. 9, 1987, and Vince’s two children, Kristin Nicole and Vincent Aaron, were added to that union.
A selfless mother of five, her love knew no boundaries. A persistent, dedicated mother, she always ensured the well-being of her husband and children. Whether she was feeding the kids, supporting their extracurricular activities, or teaching valuable lessons about love, morals, life, and the wonders of God to all who may listen. Her love flourished, and all who knew her were blessed in her presence. With numerous grandkids, friends, and family, she always made sure everyone felt the love; no one ever missed out around Nana Peggy.
An artist at heart, Nana loved to paint; she specialized in contemporary abstract painting. Creating many wonders, everyone survived by Peggy is fascinated by her creations. With an outstanding voice, she recorded an album in Nashville, volunteered to sing at churches, and, most importantly, sang to the family, which they all will forever miss. A woman full of love, she shared it all, including animals. She appreciated bird watching and, most of all, dogs. An avid reader, her favorite book of all was the Bible.
Peggy is survived by her husband Vince Carswell, her children: Kristin Stragey (Jerry), Michael Perry, Aaron Carswell (Adrienne), and Emily Perry (Jason); her siblings: Bill Light, Nancy Olsen, Linda Bushart, Ellen Hall, and David Light; her mother-in-law Betty Carswell; grandchildren included, Brooklyn (Andrew) Richards, McKenna (Corey Robins) O’Hare, Kaden O’Hare, Parker Stragey (Shakira Cook), Audra Perry, Aurie Perry, Bentlee Perry, Richie Perry, Camden Carswell, Taygen Carswell, Elisa Sorrell, Sabryn (Tyler Oren) Quagliano, Sophie (Karson Kern) Williams, and four precious great grandkids including Brylee Richards, Hadley Richards, Oakleigh Richards, and Price Quagliano. As well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, siblings-in-law, and friends. Her death is preceded by parents William Jasper and Mardelle Light, father-in-law James Rex Carswell, her beloved son Richie Lee, and grandson-in-law Casey Quagliano.
