Gazette guru rallies past intern; picks all bowl and playoff winners

Thursday, December 26, 2024

After easily taking the Gazette Pigskin’ Pickin season title from intern Maryann Kassner by all of ONE GAME, overconfiident Gazette guru R.B. (Really Bigfathead) Headley dives into ther emaining college football and playoff games 13 minutes before another failed deadline attempt.

R.B.’s regular-season record finished at 558-198 for still above a .700 winning percentage.

BOWL GAMES

Today

PITTSBURGH over Toledo in GameAbove Sports Bowl (these names are all inferior to Pop Tart Bowl);

KANSAS STATE over Rutgers in Rate Bowl (HeartRate Bowl? Sounds like one Nebraska should be playing as in likely gonna lost 19-18 or something);

68 Ventures Bowl in lovely Mobile, Ala.: ARKANSAS STATE over Bowling Green.

Friday

Armed Forces Bowl: OKLAHOMA over Navy (Sooners top Military pride plus how can this match the Navy win over Army two weeks ago?). Look for the SOONERS who trounced Alabama to make one more showing.

VANDERBILT wants Birmingham Bowl more than Georgia Tech;

TEXAS TECH tops Arkansas in Liberty Bowl;

SYRACUSE over Washington State, whose quarterback transferred to Oklahoma, in Holiday;

TEXAS A&M over Usc in Vegas Bowl.

Saturday

Bill Belicheck (check spelling) isn’t coaching yet so take inspired UCONN over North Carolina in Fenway;

Yes, NEBRASKA over Boston College in Pinstripe (it’s a bigger deal to Big Red);

TCU over Louisiana in New Mexico Bowl;

Cam Ward is apparently playing so take No. 13 MIAMI over No. 19 Iowa State in PopTarts;

COLORADO STATE wins over Miami, Ohio, in Snoop Dog Arizona Bowl. Snoop Dog commercials double both teams’ combined point total;

East Carolina always likes beating NC State but WOLFPACK salvage 7-6 record in Go Bowling Military Bowl;

COLORADO notches 10th win over Byu in Alamo and ARMY representing great leaders tops Terry Bradshaw’s Louisiana Tech school in Independence Bowl.

Monday

No. 19 MISSOURI sends Iowa to another bowl defeat in Music City.

Tuesday

No. 11 ALABAMA ignores Michigan’s giddy confidence from beating Ohio State AGAIN and avenges last year’s playoff loss at the Rose Bowl.

Plus it’s a statement game to the playoff fools who actually though Smu was better than Roll Tide.

WASHINGTON pulls mild upset of Louisville in Tony The Tiger Sun Bowl;

No. 15 SOUTH CAROLINA continues tough two days for Big Ten, beating No. 20 Illinois in Citrus;

LSU edges Baylor in an entertaining Houston Bowl as the Bears are on a winning streak;

Now the biggies:

PLAYOFFS

This round belly really wants to roll with Boise State but R.B. has decided PENN STATE with its defense will dodge Fiesta Bowl upset. Advance those Nittany Lions to the Final Four.

Wednesday

PLAYOFFS

Tough to bet against TEXAS with a No. 1 defense and two 100-yard rushers vs. Clemson last week. Yet if there is any Cinderella emerging look out for CAM SKATEBO and season-long huge surprise Arizona State.

TEXAS though wins this Peach Bowl game.

Ohio State avenges one of its two defeats, no Rude Buckeye non-believer says OREGON beats OSU again in the Rose Bowl.

After higher seeders went 4-0 last week, NOTRE DAME makes them 1-3 with a huge win over No. 2 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.

That leaves a Final Four of Oregon vs. Texas; Penn State vs. Notre Dame.

Who does R.B. really want to see playing in a Final Four?

Ohio State vs. Arizona State; Georgia vs. Penn State. Just don’t quite believe in Boise still.

Other less interesting bowls:

Thursday, Jan. 2

This feels tricky like will the Rebels really care? No. 14 OLE MISS has just enough to get past 9-3 Duke but don’t be shocked by an upset.

Friday, Jan. 3

NORTH TEXAS over Texas State in the First Responder Bowl at Dallas; MINNESOTA rows its way past Virginia TEch in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. In other words, the Gophers coach will get a smelly post-game mayonnaise shower yay.

Saturday, Jan. 4

In the ultimate beautiful but who-cares Bahamas Bowl: LIBERTY over Buffalo. Everyone knows the Bulls will spend more energy at beach events.

Monday, Jan. 6

North Dakota State at Montana State...hey Montana State might be 15-0 but we’re talking BISON here with all those national titles so take ...wait a second, a 16-0 tream sounds cool so take MONTANA ST just barely.
