Longhorns wrestle to four titles at Sidney-Bridgeport
SIDNEY, Neb. — Returning state medalist Luis Co’s now 11-0 as the Chase County wrestlers scored 143 points to place fifth among 15 Sidney-Bridgeport Invite teams on Saturday.
The Longhorns were only 1/2 point behind Mitchell with Gering (166.5), Alliance (161) and host Sidney (150) top three.
A rundown of the top Longhorns’ performers.
150 pounds — Co (11-0) won the championship as he pinned R. Handy, OGA, in 1:36; won 20-3 tech fall over C. Sanchez, Burns/Pine Bluffs; and pinned finalist I. Murrillo, Gering (7-3 record), in 1:40.
285 Zach Tarin (12-0) won the championship. He won 17-2 tech fall over E. Schillerff, Scottsbluff; pinned W. Blomekamp, MITCH, in 3:05; won 18-3 tech fall over C. Tolstedt, ALL; and pinned finalist K. Rahmig (11-6), Bridgeport, in 3:51.
157 — Westyn Mendenhall (12-1) won the championship. He won 16-1 tech fall over S. Nokes, Burns-Pine Bluffs; pinned B. Dykes, Torrington, Wyo., in 1:22; pinned O. Gillham, SID, in 3:51; and pinned finalist C. Sandusky (9-4), Torrington, in 4:00.
Dylan Miscles (9-4) placed fourth at 106; Connor Einspahr (5-7) placed fourth at 144, Scott Hoover (11-1) placed fifth at 165; and Parker Terryberry (3-6) placed sixth at 190.
GIRLS
Chase County’s girls placed seventh among 17 by totaling 82 points and champion Hayley Rusher reached 16-0 this season.
Bridgeport won a close title chase over Gering, 159-154.
