McCOOK, Neb. - After field demonstrations and discussions spanning months, the Red Willow County Board of Commissioners agreed to purchase road grading equipment in Monday’s board meeting. A motion was made by Gans, seconded by Dean to approve the purchase of a “Lycox Retriever” using a combination of ARPA and road funds.

Manufacturer’s literature describes the Lycox Retriever as a “specialized road maintenance and grading tool designed for efficient reshaping and resurfacing of gravel or dirt roads.” The county chose the lowest bid for the machinery at a cost of $22,140.

After calling the Dec. 9 meeting to order, Chairman Gans offered the floor for citizens’ comments. No guests were present to address the board.

Acting as the Board of Equalization, board members considered two tax roll corrections presented by Deputy Assessor Lori Stevens 2024 for personal property. One adjustment was made for $1,168 and another -$3,080. The adjustments were associated with businesses that had either acquired new equipment, or liquidated equipment that had been previously taxed. The adjustments were approved by unanimous vote.

Reconvening as the Board of Commissioners, previous board minutes and accounts payable claims in the amount of $496,578.91 were approved, as was a moving permit for Star House Moving.

Sheriff Kevin Darling joined The Board to continue the discussion of an interlocal agreement with City of McCook for Law Enforcement. NIRMA, the County’s Risk Management Company had voiced several concerns about the liability wording. It was agreed to share those concerns with the city and wait for their response.

A letter to Powerline Dairy from Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy regarding issuing of modified construction and operating permit was reviewed and placed on file, as were the District Court Clerk’s Monthly Revenue Report, and the Sheriff’s Monthly Revenue Report. The meeting adjourned after only 43 minutes.
