'Riders, Raiders split season openers at Curtis

CURTIS, Neb. — The Southwest Roughriders and Meidicne Valley Raiders both delivered impressive opening basketball wins Thursday evening.

GIRLS

Southwest 63,

Med Valley 23

The Southwest girls started hot with 37 first-half points and never looked back.

Kyra Nelms’ 16 points led four in double figures.

Freshman guard Aspen Billeter mixed in 14 points including two triples from long distance.

Senior Bailey Truksa powered 11 points through the nets with senior guard Allison VanPelt adding another 10.

Delaney Evans and Haylie Gustafson scored six points apiece for the host Raiders (0-1).

Senior Remi Stout netted five points and Oakley Stout four.

BOYS

Med Valley 68,

Southwest 41

Ethan Brown lit up the nets for 24 points to lead a fatastic Medicine Valley boys’ debut.

Lucas Einspahr worked through the Roughriders for another 16 Med Valley points. Brondy Senff reached double digits with 11.
