Noel on Norris: A festive tradition returns to McCook
McCOOK Neb. — The holiday season is fast approaching, and with it comes the beloved Noel on Norris event, now in its fourth year.
This festive celebration, a cornerstone of the community’s holiday spirit, is set for Dec. 7 at Norris Park. Chamber Director Sarah Schneider is excited about the upcoming festivities that promise to light up the evening with joy and entertainment.
Schneider became the Director of the McCook Chamber of Commerce in January but has been volunteering with the McCook Chamber since 2021 and helped establish this magical Christmas event.
The evening will feature many activities, including nearly complete carriage rides that can still be reserved online. Attendees can also anticipate festive performances at the Band Shell, sure to fill the air with holiday cheer. Amberette’s Photography will offer mini photo sessions for families looking to capture the season’s magic.
Delicious treats will abound, including warm cookies, rich hot chocolate, and festive candy canes. Children can meet Santa and share their holiday wishes. At the same time, a petting zoo courtesy of Peace Lutheran Church promises adorable encounters with animals from a live nativity.
The McCook Chamber of Commerce has also been actively promoting the holiday spirit, encouraging residents to enjoy the beautiful Christmas lights lining Norris Avenue, Norris Park, and Norris Alley. “None of this holiday magic would be possible without the generous support of our sponsors,” Schneider shared, expressing gratitude to those contributing to the community’s festive atmosphere.
During a recent board meeting, Schneider reported a surge in membership, with eight new members joining last month, bringing the total to 57 for the year. Exciting community events are on the horizon, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Southwest Nebraska Kids Rodeo on Friday and a chamber mixer at the McCook Farm and Ranch Expo.
Schneider also highlighted the “Light Up McCook Challenge,” sponsored by Charter West.
Residents are invited to participate by decorating their homes with Christmas lights for a chance to win cash prizes. Registration is free but must be completed by Nov. 27, and the lights must be displayed by Dec. 1.As Noel on Norris approaches, families can look forward to free activities for kids, including cookies and hot chocolate, leading up to the light parade.
