FBO declares bankruptcy; city scrambles to continue service

McCOOK, Neb. — City officials are working with a court-appointed trustee to ensure vital air service continues despite the bankruptcy of the fixed-base operator at McCook Ben Nelson Regional Airport.

City Manage Nate Schneider said personnel are in place to begin providing fuel and other essential services as soon as the trustee gives the go ahead.

He said City Council members have been informed of the situation on an individual basis, and should be able to take appropriate action at their next regular meeting, Dec. 2.

Public Works Director Kyle Potthoff said he was most concerned that emergency medical services can continue as needed, and officials are assured they can, along with regular parcel and air service.

At least one physician expressed concern about being able to fly into McCook to perform surgeries and other medical care, but officials have provided assurance those will not be jeopardized.

A NOTAM —Notice to Airmen — was issued following last week’s filing of bankruptcy by local fixed-base operator Red Willow Aviation, which provides fuel, aircraft repairs, aerial application and other services.
