Gazette picker tops 500 wins, believes NU, CU will add on more

Thursday, November 21, 2024

Gazette scribbler R.B.E. (Really Big Eater) Headley gobbled past 500 correct college football picks with his 34-14 performance last weekend.

Roundish Belly now stands — well, he prefers sitting — at 507-177 for this season after one of his highlight upset specials: 3-6 Kansas knocking off 9-0 Brigham Young in those Cougars’ backyard at Provo, Utah.

“Love Provo, I used to live an hour from Salt Lake,” Rude Buggar recalled. “But give me the Sunflower State flatlands of Kansas with no nerd going downhill on snow ski mishaps.”

Rumblin Bumblin’s .741 winning percentage will be tested again with some tempting upset specials like KU over now Big 12 favorite Colorado?

Here is the Week 13 slate starting with:

Tonight

GEORGIA TECH over North Carolina State

Friday

UTSA over Temple, MICHIGAN STATE over one-win Purdue and No. 24 UNLV at San Jose State.

Now Saturday and the biggest game:

No. 5 Indiana at No. 2 Ohio State.

R.B. would really love the Hoosiers, but their schedule strength is like 106th in America while Buckyes know all about big games.

Plus that Buck defense is playing really well...OHIO STATE over Indiana though HOOSIERS still make the 12-team playoff.

No. 8 MIAMI over Wake Forest, No. 9 MISSISSIPPI escapes the Florida swamp, No. 13 SMU at Virginia but RUTGERS rises to edge No. 25 Illinois.

IOWA at Maryland in a final tuneup for the annual Huskers after-Thanksgiving debacle, SYRACUSE over Connecticut, NORTH CAROLINA at Boston College; SAM HOUSTON forces a Conference USA first-place tie with win at Jacksonville State.

No. 10 GEORGIA routs UMass while No. 11 TENNESSEE trounces Utep; LIBERTY over Western Kentucky, FLORIDA STATE FINALLY gets win No. 2 (2-9) thanks to Charleston Southern visiting, BOWLING GREEN at Ball State, RICE wins at Uab (might be R.B.’s first Rice pick all season, rice sounds good with other Thanksgiving food), MIDDLE TENNESEE over New Mexico State, JAMES MADISON at App State, TCU over Arizona, KENNESAW STATE (2-9) over Florida International (3-8), ARKANSAS STATE over Ul Monroe.

SOUTH ALABAMA at Southern Miss, CHARLOTTE at Florida Atlantic...ugh, all the smallies are playing as bye weeks are pretty much over this season. The bigger games:

No. 3 TEXAS over Kentucky, No. 4 PENN STATE escapes trap game at Minnesota, but No. 21 ARIZONA STATE sends No. 14 Byu to a second straight defeat.

And now... Colorado at Kansas, wow, KU is hot and healthy but Buffs have been rolling...No. 16 COLORADO prevails at Kansas.

No. 17 CLEMSON over The Citadel, MICHIGAN finally gets bowl eligible beating Northwestern and speaking of bowls....

NEBRASKA finds a way to end its 10-game drought vs. Wisconsin.

WOO-HOO, Huskers 6-5 get those bowl trip plans kicked off!

CALIFORNIA over Stanford in the “Big Game???”, OKLAHOMA STATE’s horrid season gets a surprise win over Texas Tech, WEST VIRGINIA over Ucf, UTAH STATE downs San Diego State.

What a full menu, R.B. really needs another pecan pie break.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN at Coastal Carolina, NORTH TEXAS over East Carolina (not likely Carolinas expect for R.B.’s Tar Heels), SOUTH FLORIDA over Tulsa, No. 18 SOUTH CAROLINA over Wofford (love the Gamecocks!), ARKANSAS tops Louisiana Tech and LOUISVILLE shows these Pittsburgh boys are not quite the Steelers.

No. 23 MISSOURI at Mississippi State, LOUISIANA and in honor of fellow Gazette pigskin guesser Steve Towery...No. 19 ARMY shocks No. 6 Notre Dame somehow.

No. 12 BOISE STATE at Wyoming, WASHINGTON STATE at Oregon State, BAYLOR at Houston, TEXAS STATE over Georgia State, No. 7 ALABAMA wins at once-great Oklahoma.

No. 15 TEXAS A&M at Auburn, UTAH stuns No. 22 Iowa State, MARSHALL at Old Dominion, LSU finally rebounds over a tough Vanderbilt team.

DUKE over Virginia Tech, KANSAS STATE once a contender fights past Cincinnati, USC at Ucla, NEVADA takes down Air Force and COLORADO STATE wins again at Fresno State. Whew! On to the holiday break. Oh but remember mighty VIKINGS over Chicago Bears as expected.
