NDA urges support for Nebraska tree farmers at Christmas
LINCOLN, Neb. — As the holiday season approaches, Nebraska tree farmers are ready to help families add the charm, scent, and memories of a real Christmas tree to their homes. A directory of local Christmas tree growers is available on the Nebraska Department of Agriculture's (NDA) website at nda.nebraska.gov/publications/promotion/christmas_trees/trees.html.
"Using real Christmas trees for holiday decorations benefits tree growers, their communities, and the environment," said NDA Director Sherry Vinton. "Christmas tree farmers plant two to three seedlings for every tree they harvest, working year-round to nurture and shape the trees with care."
Tree farms also provide environmental benefits. As they grow, trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. They help protect natural resources like soil and water, and provide healthy habitats for wildlife. After the holidays, real trees can be recycled into mulch for gardens and parks, or used in lakes to create habitats for fish.
"Christmas tree growers help bring holiday traditions to life," Vinton said. "Their dedication not only produces beautiful trees but also strengthens the sense of community and celebration."
Producers interested in being listed in the NDA’s Christmas tree growers directory can submit their information online at no cost by completing the Nebraska Christmas tree producer profile.
