McCOOK, Neb. — McCook’s seven wins in its return to Class B football this fall features seven Bison who’ve earned All-B5 district recognition.

There are four first-team selections: senior lineman Davien Hanson, junior linebacker Gabe Roberts, junior receiver Miles Pollmann and junior running back/safety Tristan Campbell.

Another trio of Bison captured honorable mention from the B-5 coaches: junior linebacker Kalen McCorkle, junior linebacker Oliver Corbett and junior lineman Trey Tiller.

Together, they helped power the Bison through a tough field of state playoff qualifiers Scottsbluff, Hastings and Gering as well as Lexington.

The Bison went 3-2 against those B-5 opponents capped with a memorable 34-21 state playoff triumph over Hastings on Nov. 1.

They also edged Gering, 24-23, when the Bulldogs were 4-0 and added a resounding 52-0 victory vs Lexington in their regular-season finale. Final McCook season stats will appear in an upcoming Gazette.

Campbell was clearly a leading offensive force as he rushed for 1,360 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also made 54 total tackles which tied for fifth on the Bison ‘D’.

Roberts led all Bison tackles with 85 stops while intercepting four passes — three returned for “pick-six” TDs.

Hanson ranked second only to Roberts among Bison tacklers (76 totals) and tackles for loss (six). He was also part of the offensive line for McCook’s rushing attack averaging 214.3 yards per game.

Yet no Bison except Campbell scored more touchdowns than Pollmann’s six receiving scores. He averaged an impressive 20.11 yards per reception (18 for 362) despite a mid-season hand injury.

Corbett ranked fourth among Bison tacklers (65) and made two huge quarterback sacks in the playoff win at Hastings.

Tiller anchored the Bison ‘O’ line all season then stepped up defensively to make 36 total stops.

McCorkle was perhaps McCook’s best comeback story from injuries. His 38 solo tackles topped all Bison and 75 total was third overall. He mixed in two fumble recoveries and four tackles for loss.

McCook’s 7-4 record was its best in ‘B’ since 2018.
