$7.5M wastewater treatment plant loan on council agenda

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook City Council will tackle an agenda that includes efforts to secure a $7.5 million USDA loan for wastewater plant improvements, funding allocations for West 14th Street construction, and updates to animal control regulations.

The regular meeting is 5:30 p.m. Monday in council chambers in the municipal building, 505 West C.

A major item on the agenda is a letter conditions regarding a loan of nearly $7.5 million the city hopes to obtain from USDA Rural Development to rebuild the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

There is no guarantee the city will receive the loan, or that funds will be available, according to the letter.

Among other matters up for approval is a proposal to allocate $50,000 from LB 840 Motor Vehicle funds to assist with the construction of West 14th Street. Additionally, the Council will consider a $10,000 payment to Mike and Sally Daffer in exchange for a drainage easement on their property at 1510 West 14th Street, aimed at improving stormwater management for the area.

The Council is also expected to review and approve an amendment to the city’s Water Tower Lease Agreement with Alltel Communications of Nebraska LLC, operating as Verizon Wireless.

This amendment would allow for modifications to existing equipment on the tower, subject to the mayor’s authorization.

Another item on the consent agenda includes Change Order No. 2 for the Business Park Phase II Grading & Paving Project. If approved, the city would receive a credit of $2,516.66 to its contract with Gerih Concrete Construction. The meeting will also address the United States Department of Agriculture’s Letter of Conditions for the Fiscal Year 2024 Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvement Project, marking another step forward in the city’s infrastructure improvements.

In addition to these items, the Council will hold a reading of Ordinance No. 2024-3094, proposing amendments to the City Code regarding animal control regulations.

Changes are suggested to update sections on dangerous dogs, hybrid animals, and the disposition of impounded animals without immunization tags.
