Verda M. (Richter) Wegener
Aug. 26, 1932 - Nov. 10, 2024
McCOOK, Neb. - Verda M. (Richter) Wegener lived her life full of love for her family and friends, savored a good meal, and enthusiastically cheered for the Huskers. She left the earthly world on Nov. 10, 2024 to be with her Lord. She had a strong faith and showed it by the things she did.
Verda was born on Aug. 26, 1932 to Hazel (Hayward) and Clarence Richter, the second of three daughters. As a child, she helped her dad on the farm by learning how to fix fences and drive tractors, and helped tend to the livestock while also learning from her mother how to sew, bake, and cook. She graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1950. She married Milton Wegener in 1952 and welcomed their only child, Marla, in 1953.
Verda worked many jobs throughout her life. Beginning with DeGroffs, Hesteds, Yellow Front and others. She loved people and loved helping them.
Verda’s greatest joy in life was being a mother to Marla, but she may have loved being a grandmother to Kayla and Maggie even more. She always doted on her three “girls,” and was immensely proud of them. She loved embroidery and baking and took great pleasure in sharing her talents with the people she loved. Verda was always quick with a smile and possessed a contagious optimism. Her upbeat attitude and kind heart will be thoroughly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton; and her sisters, Twila and Norma.
She is survived by daughter, Marla Sanders and son-in-law, Mike; granddaughters, Kayla (Jason) Pritchard and Maggie (Jack) Latta; great-grandson Rex Pritchard; and countless friends.
Cremation was chosen and services are pending at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Verda’s name are suggested to the McCook Humane Society. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.
