Class B No. 1 Badgers top Bison in quarterfinals, 39-0
BENNINGTON, Neb. — Bennington blocked an opening punt for a safety and tacked on 37 points to a 39-0 Class B state quarterfinal win over McCook Friday night.
The Badgers (10-1 record) led 9-0 through one quarter, then 26-0 entering halftime.
McCook (7-4 final record) rarely moved inside Bennington's 40-yard line with an offense that averaged nearly 30 points through its previous 10 contests.
Senior Quentin Terry made one final tackle late behind Bennington's line. Leading tacklers Gabe Roberts and Davien Hanson teamed for the final Bison stop of this 2024 season.
Coach Joe Vetrovsky offered these remarks to McCook radio voice Rich Barnett with more including photos appearing early next week.
“At the end of the day, we just couldn’t get anything going offensively, they’re just a real good defense, our defense battled hard, they were just on the field too We didn’t start well, we stopped them on our first drive but ended up blocking the punt for safety, we just couldn’t get enough going against a good team…Quentin (Terry)meant a bunch to us, he played through injury this year, that’s just fact…weren’t going to pull them off the field..only eight seniors but I told those guys they led in a way that it seemed like more than on the roster sheet…it just wasn’t our night, against a team like that, you have to find some plays to go your way.”
