McCOOK, Neb. - Sharon Ann LaRue of McCook, Neb., passed away at the McCook Community Hospital on Nov. 7, 2024, at the age of 83.

Sharon was born May 16, 1941 at Lyman, Neb. to parents Ila and James Homer Giles. The family later moved to Morrill, Neb. where Sharon attended Morrill Public Schools through her mid-junior year. She graduated from Bayard High School with her GED in 1972.

Sharon later graduated from Practical Nursing School in Byng, Okl. and obtained her LPN degree in 1979.

Continuing to further her education, Sharon graduated from Norfolk Community College with a Medical Secretary degree in 1982.

On Dec. 31, 1957, Sharon married Charles Stanley LaRue at Morrill. To this union four children were born: Deborah Ann, Carol Christene, Charles James and Lonnie Kevin. They made their home in Mitchell, Neb. where Stan worked in Fairmont creamery. From there, the family moved to Kimball, Neb. where Stan worked in the oil field and eventually resided in Terry Town, Neb. where Stan worked in land leveling.

In August 1969, Stan went into the ministry. The moves that resulted from the ministry were: Bayard, Neb. 1970, Craig and Alder Grove, Neb. 1972-1976, Stratford, Okl. 1976-1980 where Stan served two churches and attended SMU in Dallas, Tex., Tilden, Meadow Grove and Battle Creek 1980-1985, David City, Bellwood 1985-1988, Friend, Dorchester 1988-1995, and Curtis, Garden Prairie 1995-1997. Stan retired in 1997 and then served Wellfleet, Maywood part time from 2002-2006. In 1997, the couple moved to their own property where they built their home.

Alongside her family, Sharon loved to hunt and fish. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, music, animals, gardening and ceramics. While in the ministry, Sharon made baby quilts for all the new babies in the parish and ceramic eggs for all church members at Easter, as well as ceramic items for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and graduates. She also hosted numerous Christmas potluck suppers at their home for all parish members.

Sharon worked in nursing homes in many of the communities they lived in.

After retirement Sharon enjoyed watching and feeding all the wildlife, especially deer and turkeys. Sharon always had kittens and cats around as she really had a soft heart for them.

Sharon is survived by her children, Deborah Brooks of North Platte, Neb., Carol (John) Cobb of Kansas City, Mo., Charles James (Pam) of Manteo, N.C. and Lonnie (Diane) of Meadow Grove, Neb.; sister, Evelyn (Don) Hammock of Escondido, Calif.; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, James and Ila Gile; husband, Charles Stanley Larue and their infant son, Joe Mac; brother, James Giles of Loveland, Colo.; and son in law, Roger Brooks.
