Holiday cheer and charity: A fun night of competition for a great cause

McCOOK, Neb. - The second annual Holiday Game Night will take place Sunday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. in the Senior High Gym. The event will raise funds for the McCook Family Resource Center (FRC), a local nonprofit organization that provides essential services to families in need.

The night’s main event features a friendly competition between two teams – one of students and one of local staff. Audience members can get involved by donating money to earn points for their chosen team. For every $1 donation, supporters will receive one point to direct to their team of choice, with no limit on donations. The more people donate, the more points their team gets.

“This event brings the community together,” said Molly Grace Larington, the event organizer. “It’s not just about having fun, but also contributing to the cause in your own way, whether that’s through donations or cheering on the teams.”

All proceeds from the event will benefit the McCook Family Resource Center, which provides services such as child abuse prevention, parenting support, school supplies, and financial assistance for families facing medical crises. Last year, the FRC supported over 500 families, distributed books to more than 100 families, and assisted 41 families with parenting resources.

In addition to the game, the event will feature a halftime show with a performance by local high school students. Larington said she is excited for the show, noting that last year’s performance was a hit.

The event’s debut last year raised more than $1,400 for the FRC, and Larington hopes for an even bigger turnout this year. Although the event is not officially affiliated with McCook Public Schools, it has gained strong support from local educators and students.

“I plan it all myself, but it’s truly a community effort,” Larington said. “From volunteers helping with setup to those cheering from the sidelines, it’s amazing how people come together to make this happen.”

Admission to the event is $1 for students and $2 for adults. Those who attend are encouraged to donate to support the FRC and help make a positive impact on the community this holiday season.
