Nebraska Literacy Project on agenda for McCook School Board meeting
McCOOK, Neb.— Following the recent election in which voters rejected the proposed school bond, the McCook Public Schools Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Monday, Nov. 11, at 6 p.m.
Superintendent Grant Norgaard expressed gratitude for the community’s involvement in a statement to the McCook Gazette. “We are grateful for the community’s engagement and support throughout the bond election process,” he said. “We believed strongly in the project and its potential to benefit our students and the community. Although the bond did not pass, we deeply appreciate the efforts of everyone who supported and participated in this undertaking. The Board will now take time to reflect on the election results and thoughtfully plan a path forward to address our facility needs.”
Looking ahead, the board plans to revisit facility planning in the new year to strategize on addressing the district’s pressing infrastructure needs.
Also on the agenda, the Board will review the Nebraska Literacy Project’s focus on improving reading proficiency among K-3 students to meet thresholds established by the Nebraska Reading Improvement Act.
The agenda for the Nov. 11 meeting includes accepting one resignation, approving contracts for three new hires, reviewing changes in file numbers to align with the new policy manual, and revisiting the anti-bullying policy.
Additionally, the board is expected to enter an executive session to discuss negotiations with the McCook Education Association. This closed session aims to protect the public interest during the negotiation process and will include discussions about personnel matters and the superintendent’s evaluation.
The McCook School Board encourages community engagement and input as it navigates these important discussions, which will impact the future of the school district.
