Trojans team for 20 kills; Tiger 13 blocks in district finals highlights
CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — Senior Erin Johnson’s 21 kills and 19 from sophomore Brooklyn Holtze powered Cambridge to the four-set district finals win over Ansley-Litchfield on Saturday.
Holtze also served four aces while junior Mallory Springer’s 19 digs led five Trojans who reached double figures in defensive saves.
Sophomore Joslyn Holtze made 18 digs, Elizabeth Kubik 15, Brooklyn 15 and Johnson 14.
Springer also sent out 39 assists to those top Trojan hitters. Joslyn Holtze mixed in five more kills.
Cambridge (22-10 record) has earned the Class D-1 No. 4 seed entering state tournament play today.
Chase plays five
KEARNEY, Neb. — Riley Rusher rocketed 17 kills and Haley Rusher made 13 blocks as Chase County pushed Kearney Catholic’s Stars to a five-set district final on Saturday.
The Longhorns (23-11 final record) were a 17-15 finale from reaching Class C-1 state.
Karlie Anderson crushed 11 more kills to lead Chase’s effort. The Longhorns were a C-1 No. 12 seeds with those Stars seeded No. 5.
Anderson added 19 digs while Olivia Spady and Anna Aragon hustled for 14 apiece.
Landree McNair and Dylan Heermann dug another 11 saves each.
Setter Landree McNair totaled 22 assists.
DC-S Tigers’ finale
AMHERST, Neb. — Junior Clara Spargo crushed 15 kills, Emily Schack 12 and Ava Lutz eight in Dundy County-Stratton’s four-set district final with Amherst on Saturday.
Laynee Lutz totaled 42 assists.
May-Hay finale
OAKLAND, Neb. — Senior Aubrey Broz and junior Blayklee Farr each smashed six kills in Maywood-Hayes Center’s C-2 district final at Oakland-Craig. Caylie Softley dug nine and Karissa Stengel eight.
