Warriors wipe out 22-0 only to see hosts score last
SHELBY, Neb. — Despite a brilliant rally from being down 22-0, Arapahoe fell 30-22 to Shelby-Rising City in Friday’s Class D-1 second-round playoff game.
The Warriors (8-2 final record fell behind 22-0 while beginning a rough four-turnover performance.
They rallied mainly on senior Grayson Koller’s three interceptions and touchdown punt return.
Warriors eventually also recovered three S-RC fumbles.
Senior William Cacy also scored two TDs,including a three-yard run that made it 22-22.
However, Shelby-Rising City delivered another score while advancing into this week’s D-1 quarterfinals.
“We were down to just four starters for most of the game because of more injuries,” coach Dustin Kronhofman remarked. “Our guys fought their tails off and tied it up ate in the fourth quarter. Just need to make one more play and were unable to do so. Just too many mistakes and too many injuries to overcome in the end.”
Arapahoe forced six turnovers but also threw four interceptions, somewhat negating a 247-121 edge in total yardage.
Quarterback Kade Fisher threw for 126 yards with his four completions.
Cacy took one 55 yards to start the Warrior scoring while pulling them within 22-8.
Cacy totaled both 70 yards rushing and 70 receiving — both team bests — in his final high school football game.
He added 28 yards on two kickoff returns.
Koller’s 62-yard punt return along with a two-point conversion caught S-RC at 22-22.
He also caught 21 and 25-yard completions from Fisher.
Sophomore Briggs Hill’s 17 total tackles (eight solos) topped an overall strong Arapahoe defensive effort.
Koller was part of 15 stops (another eight solos), made one for a loss and recovered one S-RC fumble.
Arapahoe started 7-0 before losing the regular-season finale at North Platte St. Pat’s.
Senior quarterback Trenton Roskop tore an ACL. Other area recaps appear today.
