Devils fight off Falcons; Tigers edged in final seconds
WYNOT, Neb. — The Wynot Blue Devils fought off a final Hitchcock County rally, 22-14, to take this Class D-2 second-round playoff game on Friday.
The Falcons finish 7-3. Junior Adam Kisker caught two touchdown passes from senior Jack Baker for the Falcon scores.
They led 8-0 only to see Wynot tally 22 points until one more Falcon fourth-quarter score.
Baker passed for 54 yards and added a team-high 42 rushing. Kisker had 74 yards on threer receptions.
Jaret Neben and Karson Shuler both intercepted Devil passes.
Brody Hubl made eight solo tackles and assisted on five for 13 total. Shuler’s 14 stops featured six solos. Jace Hauxell made seven solo stops, 11 tackles total.
DC-S finish
BENKELMAN, Neb. — Lourdes Central Catholic scored a touchdown in the final seconds to stun Dundy County-Stratton, 34-30, during Class D-1 state quarterfinal play Friday afternoon.
The No. 5-seed Tigers took an early 18-6 lead on a pass interception “pick six” touchdown return.
However, LCC (8-2) showed its traditional playoff touchdown and avenged a loss during DC-S’ 2020 state championship run.
Not many other details were obtained from this second-round contest. DC-S was coming off a strong 62-16 first-round win over Boyd County and appeared ready to make another strong run.
The Knights were seeded No. 12 and made this across-Nebraska trip from Nebraska City to Benkelman a successful one. Watch for more to wrap up the fall season in an upcoming Gazette.
