Council to approve public safety purchases, discuss infrastructure upgrades
McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook City Council will meet on November 4, 2024, at 5:30 PM to discuss a range of community and public safety matters, from local business licensing to infrastructure updates. The meeting will begin with an invocation from Tyler McCarty of McCook Christian Church, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
The agenda includes a public hearing for Schmitz Station, LLC, which is applying for a Class “I” liquor license under the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission. The business, located at 404 West “A” Street, seeks approval to sell beer, wine, and distilled spirits on-site. The Council will decide whether to recommend the license for approval, replacing the existing license #093350.
Key items related to infrastructure and public safety will also be considered. The Council will review technical specifications for modifications at the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant and establish a bid deadline of December 5, 2024, to secure contractors for the project. Additionally, the Council will examine specifications for a new police vehicle purchase, with bids set to be received by November 25.
In response to a recent equipment need, the Council will file confirmation of an emergency purchase for a used 2015 Ford F-750 bucket truck. The vehicle, essential for the Street Department’s operations, was acquired from Custom Truck One Source at a cost of $55,000, including delivery.
The City Council will also review the appointment of Greg A. Wolford as the Street Superintendent for 2025, positioning the city to qualify for a Highway Incentive Payment from the Nebraska Department of Transportation in 2026. Additionally, the Council will consider Resolution No. 2024-30, which proposes new rates for ambulance and fire department services.
The meeting will be open to the public in accordance with Nebraska’s Open Meetings Act.
