Troopers urge caution on rainy football Saturday
LINCOLN, Neb. — With the Nebraska Huskers returning to Memorial Stadium on Saturday after several weeks of away games, the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) is urging fans to prioritize safety on the roads and at the stadium, especially with rain in the forecast. Superintendent Colonel John Bolduc highlighted the excitement of welcoming fans back, emphasizing the importance of road safety for a smooth gameday experience.
“It will be great to get Husker fans back together in Lincoln on Saturday. Let’s all work together to make gameday safe on the roads and at the stadium,” said Bolduc. "With a chance for rain during and after the game, fans should be patient on their drive home and be very cautious around pedestrians.”
In collaboration with the Lincoln Police Department, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, UNL Police Department, and the Nebraska Department of Transportation, NSP is coordinating efforts to ensure safe travel and security at the stadium. NSP is advising fans to check Nebraska 511 for up-to-date information on construction and possible detours. Real-time traffic updates from Trooper Brett will be available before and after the game on the Huskers Radio Network.
NSP has also provided specific route recommendations: fans arriving from the east should use I-180, while those from the west are encouraged to take Highway 77 to Rosa Parks Way.
For those in need of assistance at Memorial Stadium, NSP has set up resources for fans to contact officers or event staff directly or text 402-472-0800 for dispatch. Anyone who observes reckless driving or requires non-emergency help on the road can call *55 for the NSP Highway Helpline. This safety initiative receives partial funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.
