IMPERIAL, Neb.— A Wauneta man was arrested on Oct. 23 after leading Chase County deputies on a high-speed chase following a reported domestic assault involving a firearm and the alleged false imprisonment of a woman and infant, according to the Chase County Sheriff’s Office.

On the morning of Oct. 23, the Chase County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic assault report involving Brandon O’Neil, 33, of Wauneta. A 911 call placed at 6:30 a.m. alerted law enforcement to an incident in Wauneta, where O'Neil allegedly assaulted a female victim in the late hours of Oct. 22 into the early morning of Oct. 23. Sergeant Justin Mueller arrived on the scene to investigate and learned that O’Neil had fled before law enforcement’s arrival. The victim reported that an infant was present during the assault, which involved a firearm, and that she had been denied the ability to leave or call for help. The victim eventually escaped to a neighbor's house and then went to a relative’s home with her child.

Law enforcement searched for O’Neil throughout the morning, focusing northwest of Champion, where he was expected to work but failed to appear. Around 1:30 p.m., Sergeant Mueller and Deputy Browning divided search areas and eventually located O’Neil driving a white Chevrolet pickup. When Mueller attempted a traffic stop, O’Neil fled east on 736 RD at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The chase continued along unpaved roads, with O’Neil losing a tire and driving on a rim, reaching speeds over 75 mph. The pursuit narrowly avoided a collision at one intersection before O’Neil’s vehicle finally came to a stop in a field, where he was taken into custody.

O’Neil was transported to Lincoln County Jail and faces multiple charges, including Domestic Assault, False Imprisonment, Child Abuse/Endangerment, Flight to Avoid Arrest, and Willful Reckless Driving. O’Neil’s bond for these new charges was set at $50,000, 10% cash, with conditions. He was already out on bond for a prior domestic assault case, which has led to another motion to revoke his bond.
