McCOOK, Neb. — Several people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident south of McCook on Highway 83 about 10:10 a.m. Wednesday.

The accident, which blocked traffic in both directions, involved four vehicles, including a van and a semi-truck carrying distiller’s grain, was south of McCook on U.S. 83, about 7 miles north of the Kansas border.

According to the Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office, the van, traveling erratically, crossed the centerline and struck the semi-truck, causing significant damage to both vehicles. The semi-truck’s trailer was destroyed, spilling its contents into a nearby milo field. Two drivers were transported to the hospital, including the semi driver, who was found bleeding from the ear. Another driver refused treatment, while a fourth driver was uninjured.

Traffic control assistance was provided by Western Rural Fire and additional law enforcement officers, and the scene required substantial cleanup. Sheriff Kevin Darling warned that the spilled grain could attract deer, posing future hazards for motorists.
