Buffaloes' big second half vs. rival Devils tops Week 8

ATWOOD, Kan. — Ouch, Kansas Jayhawk football fans could relate to the Decatur Community Red Devils’ pain Friday evening.

Trailing their rivals 18-16 at halftime, Rawlins County’s Buffaloes roared for 32 unanswered points which finished the 48-18 victory.

It was 24-0 during the fourth quarter alone where senior Ryan Sramek was finishing a 230-yard rushing performance while classmate Dorian Culwell added “only” another 188.

Together, they powered the 6-1 Red Devils with Sramek scoring four touchdowns.

Culwell crossed the goal line once while Sramek completed just one pass: a touchdown to sophomore Tru Dewey.

Sramek mixed in 85 kick returning yards as he finished with 315 all-purpose.

Dewey’s 13 total tackles led the Buff defense which ruined this Devils’ pre-Halloween party.

Tucker Prideaux made another 12 total stops and Daylan Fairchild’s 11 featured nine solo tackles.

Fairchild blasted through for an incredible seven tackles in the Red Devils’ backfield.

Israel Aguilar, a 5’5” nose guard, delivered five solos and five assists for 10 total stops.

Asa Popp intercepted two Decatur passes when the visitors tried to rally.

Decatur-Oberlin’s now 4-3 entering the regular-season finale this week.

Meanwhile, the Kansas Jayhawks (2-5) face their usual football nightmare in rival Kansas State (6-1) on Saturday.

Wau.-Palisade 49,

Wallace 22

WALLACE, Neb. — Sophomore Krayton Wiese’s five touchdowns ignited and led the Wauneta-Broncos’ huge rivalry win on Friday.

The Broncos (4-3) built a 35-8 lead on Wiese rumbling 20, two, seven and 57 yards for TDs before taking one Wallace fumble 16 yards for another six points.

Wallace (4-3) closed within 35-22 through three periods, but Bronco Casey Walker added clinching TDs from one and six yards.

Wa-Pa dominated despite only attempting one pass all game which was incomplete.

Wiese carried 21 times to 190 yards while Grayden Sutherland gained 31 and Walker 29 on six totes.

Aden Acton was the Bronco beast on defense wher ehe made 13 total tackles.

Both he and Wiese recovered Wallace Wildcat fumbles. Sutherland picked off one pass while Walker blocked a Wildcat kick.

Wallace fell despite rushing for 312 yards.

Hitchcock 34,

Cambridge 0

TRENTON, Neb. — Jayce Hauxwell’s 11 total tackles and two intercpetions topped a suprising Hitchcock County shutout of Cambridge Thursday evening.

Brody Hubl made another 10 stops to with his own INT.

The Falcons (2-2) provided more than enough offense as Carter Propp (142) and senior quarterback Jack Baker (98) teamed to gain 240 rush yards.

Baker tallied two touchdowns and Propp one. Karson Shuler (41 yards) and Jaret Neben (29) also added a rushing touchdown each.

Just like Wauneta-Palisade, Hitchcock dominated without completing any of three pass attempts.

Trojan freshman Abram Norton did complete 17 of 33 passes which led to 190 yards.

Krayton Ruggles caught a season-best eight for 85 with junior classmate Brady Ahlemeyer adding 57 yards on three receptions.

Yet the Falcons only permitted 65 rushing yards — 29 each from Norton and senior Tayten Koeppen.

Ogallala 16,

Chase County 6

OGALLALA, Neb. — Ogallala’s Sawyer Smith rushed for 118 yards and one touchdown while Zach Plasch powered to 83 in Ogallala’s second win this season Friday.

The Indians (2-6) finished this victory after narrowly losing 14-12 at Class B McCook one week earlier. Ogallala held a 12-7 lead in the fourth quarter.

Chase County’s now 3-5 with other losses against strong foes like undefeated Sidney and 6-2 Chadron.

No other details were obtained.

Paxton 51,

Med Valley 20

PAXTON, Neb. — The Medicine Valley Raiders slipped to 0-7 with one game remaining at home in Curtis against Wauneta-Palisasde on Friday.

May-Hay 7

MAYWOOD, Neb. — The Maywood-Hayes Center finished a 3-5 season. No other details were obtained.
