The Eight-Man football playoffs featuring 32 qualifiers in both Class D-1 and D-2 begin on Friday with three of four area teams hosting their opening-round games.

Class D-1

Dundy County-Stratton (7-1 record) is the West No. 3 seed and awaits No. 14 Boyd County (4-4) for their 2:30 p.m. game (1:30 mountain time) at Benkelman Thursday afternoon.

Arapahoe (7-1) is West No. 6 after dropping its regular-season finale, 24-14, to North Platte St. Patrick's week. The Warriors are home for their opener vs. West No. 11 Sutton (5-3) starting at 6:30 p.m. in Arapahoe.

If both DC-S and Arapahoe win, a rematch would be set for Benkelman next week. Arapahoe edged the Tigers, 26-20, during their showdown in Arapahoe earlier this season.

Class D-2

West No. 6 Hitchcock County (6-2 record) hosts No. 11 Wilcox-Hildreth (5-3) with opening kick set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in Trenton. It's a collision of Falcons and Hitchcock's fresh off a 34-0 victory over Cambridge last week.

West No. 9 Cambridge (4-4) must travel to (O'Neill) St. Mary's (5-3) to play a 4 p.m. first-round contest Thursday afternoon.

Other football regular seasons conclude on Friday for 11-man McCook and Chase County along with six-man Southwest, Wauneta-Palisade and Medicine Valley.
