McCook coach Tom Sughroue also offered some final remarks about his Bison cross country runners at Class B district competition in Overton Thursday afternoon:
"The district meet was a very windy and dirty day! But on distinct day the weather isn't really something we try to worry about. We have bigger things to think about. We knew going in that we were in for a battle in both the girls and boys races."
The boys raced first, Our team this year is made up mostly of younger guys or guys that don't have a lot of experience in the sport of Cross country. I felt we ran pretty good for the most part. (Junior) Blake Rodewald was our lead runner once again finishing in the 29th spot. the team finished 8th. We have some work to do before next year.
On the girls side, we had one of the toughest districts to compete in. Our district was LOADED with fast runners and tough teams. As a team we finished 5th. We do have 2 girls qualified for the state. Emma Cappel finished 8th with a strong finish and Brecken Gale battled the whole race for that 15th place.
Brecken just out worked the other girl in the last half mile earning that 15th spot!"
