Tigers, Wolves, Broncos, Trojans and unbeaten 'Riders prevail

BENKELMAN, Neb. — The Dundy County-Stratton Tigers reached 15 volleyball wins this season with their 19-25, 25-23, 25-22 thriller win over Hershey Tuesday afternoon.

DC-S (15-8 record) has made great strides from a winless season two years ago.

Junior Clara Spargo has topped the Tigers whether it’s hitting or blocking.

She also leads for most digs while sophomore Emily Schack has served the most aces.

Other Tigers stepping up have included seniors Laynee Lutz, Kiley Anderson, junior Lexie Yrkoski and freshman Abi Spargo.

The Tigers dropped their other Tuesday match to Perkins County, 2-0, but take an RPAC West No. 2 seed into conference tournament play starting tonight.

Trojans split

TRENTON, Neb. — Cambridge shook off a three-set loss to Southwest and won another three-setter over host Hitchcock County Tuesday night.

The Trojans (17-8 record) prevailed 25-18, 24-26, 25-10.

Host Hitchcock certainly tested Cambridge as Riley Hagan drilled nine kills, Madysen Carlson crushed seven, Asia Homma six and Kaiah Johnson another six.

Johnson covered the home court with 16 digs and Homma 15.

Senior Jill McArthur delivered 12 assists as Hitchcock (13-15) made its own recovery from a 2-0 loss to Southwest earlier Tuesday.

Roughriders

reach 25-0

TRENTON, Neb. — Southwest won Tuesday’s triangular over Hitchcock County 25-13, 25-14; and Cambridge 25-14, 17-25, 25-19 Tuesday evening.

Against the host Falcons, Southwest’s Nelms trio teamed to clobber 19 kills: Annika seven, Atleigh six and Kyra six.

Freshmen Aspen Billeter set up many big hits with 17 assists.

Atleigh Nelms and senior Anastasia Gallegos made eight digs apiece. to go with the usual floor-protecting effort from senior libero Allison VanPelt (11 digs).

Kyra Nelms served two aces and senior Peyton Truksa added six digs.

Carlson’s five kills powered the Falcon upset. Johnson jolted down four while Hagan hustled to 13 dig-saves.

The Cambridge victory featured Kyra Nelms’ awesome 22 kills and another four ace serves.

Billeter delivered 31 assists with Anikka (seven) and Atleigh (five) almost diving 12 more lethal blasts.

Van Pelt saved 12 digs with Atleigh Nelms 11.

Wolves win 3-0

SUTHERLAND, Neb. — Sophomore Caylie Softley was loud with 13 kills in a 25-17, 25-19, 25-19 beating of Sutherland Tuesday evening.

The 19-6 Broncos got seven kills from Karissa Stengel while Blayklee Farr and Kassidy Hatfield mixed in five each.

Reagan Stengel served three of eight May-Hay aces. Hatfield and Karissa Stengel dropped down two apiece.

Senior Aubrey Broz’s 15 digs provided a super 1-2 setter combo with Reagan Stengel’s 18.

Farr’s 17 digs led five double-digit defnders as Karissa Stengel cleared 13, Grace Loomis 12 and Reagan 12 more saves.

Broncos over MV

WAUNETA, Neb. — The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos are now 13-11 following their 25-21, 25-16, 25-12 victory over Medicine Valley Tuesday night.

No individual stats were obtained for the Broncos or Raiders

Izzy Stehno’s been leading the Bronco hitters though Lillian Dinnel also owns a top hitting percentage.

Dinnel’s been the best W-P blocker, according to maxpreps.com

Emma Acton continues serving the most aces.
