Troopers seize over 40 pounds of marijuana in traffic stop

YORK, Neb. — Nebraska State Patrol troopers arrested a man Thursday morning after discovering over 40 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 near York.

At approximately 9 a.m., a trooper stopped a Kia Forte for driving on the shoulder of I-80. During the stop, the trooper became suspicious of potential criminal activity. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 44 pounds of marijuana stored in suitcases in the trunk.

The driver, 30-year-old Luis Frias Alcantara from the Dominican Republic, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of marijuana exceeding one pound. He was taken to York County Jail.
