Wildest college football weekend should be good for Buckeyes, even Buffs?

Thursday, October 10, 2024

Believe it or not, a Big Red bye week only means this could be the best college football weekend so far this season.

There are four or five fantastic Big Ten or SEC showdowns with a Big 12 grand finale of Kansas State at Colorado around 9:15 p.m. in what should be “well-hydrated” and wild Boulder crowd.

R.B.D.D. (Really Big Dew Drinker) Headley is fresh off a 38-11 weekend which was fairly strong considering several upsets like Vanderbilt over No. 1 Alabama (gotta love it, but would never pick it!)

R.B.’s record now sits at 308-85 through six weekends for still a 78.3 winning percentage.

Tonight

JAMES MADISON over Coastal Carolina (go with home team between tough 4-1 mid majors); LOUISIANA TECH over Middle Tennessee; WESTERN KENTUCKY keeps opening Husker foe Utep still winless at 0-6.

Friday

Big Ten MARYLAND over Northwestern (two so-so foes), UNLV rebounds at a week Utah State team and No. 16 UTAH at Arizona State.

Saturday

No. 7 ALABAMA (down to 7!) takes anger out on South Carolina; No. 10 CLEMSON at Wake Forest (here comes Dabo’s Tigers, ugh); No. 21 MISSOURI at bad UMass (Mizzou handles the weaklings); IOWA at home over Washington; and WISCONSIN wins at Rutgers.

KENT STATE over Ball State (combined 1-9 going in); TOLEDO at Buffalo; ARMY (Steve Towery’s team) now 6-0 over Uab; EASTERN MICHIGAN over Miami-Ohio and now the good ones...

No. 1 TEXAS has just enough with Arch Manning to edge No. 18 Oklahoma; if USC comes out firing not sure Penn State has shown ability to match scores but Lions defense is really good...No. 4 PENN STATE at Usc ; No. 11 NOTRE DAME over Stanford; No. 22 PITTSBURGH over fragile Cal team that should have upset Miami; No. 23 ILLINOIS over Purdue.

LOUISVILLE at Virginia; UCF over Cincinnati; COLORADO STATE surprises San Jose State; SAN DIEGO STATE plows past Wyoming in Laramie; GEORGIA STATE over Old Dominion; WESTERN MICHIGAN over Akron; BOWLING GREEN over Northern Illinois; MEMPHIS at South Florida; No. 14 BYU stays unbeaten over Arizona; OHIO at Central Michigan; and No. 5 GEORGIA over Mississippi State.

UL MONROE over Southern Miss; No. 8 TENNESSEE finds enough resolve to fight off Florida Gators (sorry Gator man Greg Larson); NEW MEXICO over Air Force; WASHINGTON STATE at Fresno State; TEXAS STATE over Arkansas State and NORTH TEXAS at Florida Atlantic.

UTSA ROADRUNNERS at Rice; No. 2 OHIO STATE uses better overall talent to down No. 3 Oregon in Ducks’ home yard; No. 13 LSU somehow outscores No. 9 Ole Miss; OREGON STATE at Nevada; LOUSIANA over App State; KENTUCKY brings Vanderbilt down to earth but can’t take from all-time greatest VANDY win last week; man this is tough one but taking No. 11 IOWA STATE to get past West Virginia in drunk-as-skunks Morgantown.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN over Marshall; UCLA has to win at Rose Bowl sometime this season so Bruins edge Minnesota; No. 17 BOISE STATE at Hawaii and finally in a wild one...

COLORADO desperately wants a signature win and remember K-State has given up some big weird touchdown plays...the Buffs’ defense has also played better than most expected and remember what happened when Cats played BYU in late time slot three weeks ago? BYU 38-9.

It’s gonna be crazy but somehow coach Prime’s son and Travis Hunter prevail....

COLORADO over No. 18 K-State.

At least we know Huskers and Mighty NFL Vikings are safe.
