McCOOK, Neb. — Community Hospital is proud to announce that David Braun, Security Supervisor, has been selected as the 2024 Caring Kind recipient. He will be honored in October as Community Hospital’s Caring Kind recipient during the Nebraska Hospital Association annual convention in La Vista. At the Caring Kind luncheon, hosted by NHA, he will receive the award, along with other recipients from across the state.

Braun was nominated by co-workers and chosen by the Community Hospital PACT committee (Pride, Activities, Communication Team). His nominations read:

“David brings a light and smile into any room he walks into. He is always willing to lend a hand in any situation. When most people would refer you to another if they don't have the time, David is inclined to take on the problem and put down what he is doing to get it solved. He’s willing to stay late to assist especially when security assistance is needed.

From the time David walks into the building to when he is on call or leaving, he is a steady, positive force and is able to uplift anyone he bumps in to. His jokes of the day somehow come during a time when you need to hear them the most. He is caring with patients, family, and staff that needs support. He exhibits compassion in his everyday actions and cooperation with any department that he is working with. You can count on David to bring the sunshine on a rainy day. David is truly a Caring and Kind individual and an asset to Community Hospital.”

Braun has worked for Community Hospital for six years and brings a unique background to his role. He has found his career path through various roles, including as a prison guard and a sales manager for Verizon. He met his wife of 15 years, Amanda, through mutual friends, and together they have two children, Emmitt (14) and Zoey (12). David is actively involved in his community, serving as a Mason and previously participated on the boards of Head Start and the McCook Humane Society. Known for his "joke of the day" tradition, which has been ongoing for seven months, he was both surprised and humbled to receive the Caring Kind award for his dedication and positive influence at work.

And, of course, in true David fashion, he would probably want to leave us all with a smile. So, in honor of David, here's his favorite joke of the week:

What do you call the security guard on the outside of the Samsung store?

Guardian of the Galaxy.

For 42 years, the Nebraska Hospital Association has been honored to bestow awards to Nebraska health care employees that have risen to the top by providing service excellence and dedication to their profession.
