Pillen deploys National Guard to Florida

Thursday, October 10, 2024

LINCOLN, Neb. — Gov. Jim Pillen has ordered the deployment of 150 Nebraska National Guard soldiers and airmen to Florida to assist with recovery efforts following Hurricane Milton. The Guard members, drawn from various units across Nebraska, will leave at the end of the week and are expected to stay in Florida for two weeks.

The deployment comes in response to an Emergency Management Assistance Compact request from Florida, following the hurricane's landfall on the state’s west coast. The mission, coordinated through the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), is designed to provide general-purpose support for the ongoing recovery efforts.

“This was a powerful and dangerous storm,” said Gov. Pillen. “Nebraska is proud to support Florida and aid its storm-impacted residents.”

The Guard members will gather at Camp Ashland for processing before traveling to Camp Blanding, Florida, where they will receive assignments based on areas of greatest need.
