Bison split six with juniors leading attack; host Swedes Thursday

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — McCook coach Trevor Hoins provided these remarks about his volleyball team going 3-3 at last weekend’s Scottsbluff Invitational.

The Bison are 11-13 overall with Gothenburg arriving for tonight’s JV and varsity matches at McCook High School.

Friday

Bison defeat

Sidney, 2-1

“We started the weekend with a great three-set win over Sidney. The girls battled back after dropping the firstset. Jaylea Walgren had one of her better games this year with 18 kills.”

“We then played Ogallala in the second game on Friday, and dropped the match to them in two. Played them much better in the second set, but were unable to come away with a win.”

“We were able to handle our side of the court and stay in control of the game. By winning this game it put us in the gold bracket of the tournament.”

Rapid City Stevens

On Saturday, we opened up with a win against Rapid City Stevens. We dropped the first set against them, but really played well in the second and third sets. We won the third set 27-25 on a Cali Crawford kill.”

The leaders were not obtained.

Adams Central over Bison, 2-0

“Then we played Adams Central, and just couldn’t get going during the game. Adams Central ended up winning the tournament,” Hoins revealed.

“Our final game was a rematch against Ogallala. The girls really fought in the first set and dropped it 26-24. In the second we struggled early in the set to get a kill.”

“Overall, we went 3-3 at the tournament and finished fourth in the gold bracket of the tournament. Very pleased with how our defense played during the tournament,” Hoins conlcuded. “Bailee Fawver put together a very nice weekend defensively. Bailee Foster also did a good job in the back row. We saw some good contributions from Anna Hock and Jaelynn Kuykendall as well as Morgan Griffin.”
