Campaigns must staff off rights-of-way

Friday, October 4, 2024

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) issued a reminder on October 2, 2024, regarding the unlawful placement of signs, including political campaign signs, within state highway and interstate right-of-way (ROW) areas. These areas include intersections, medians, entrance and exit ramps, sidewalks, and ditches bordering the roadways. NDOT maintenance crews will remove improperly placed signs, which can be reclaimed by coordinating with local district offices.

Residents are encouraged to check local regulations, as counties and municipalities may have additional sign placement and size rules. Violating these local ordinances could result in fines.

For information on state ROW boundaries or sign permits, residents should contact their local NDOT district office or the Right-of-Way Division at (402) 479-4463.
