McCOOK, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced upcoming roadwork projects on US-136 in Oxford and US-34 near Haigler, both expected to cause minor traffic disruptions.

US-136 Railroad Crossing Project in Oxford

Starting Thursday, Oct. 10, weather permitting, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) will begin repair work at the railroad crossing on US-136 in Oxford, near reference post 10+57. A detour will be marked for drivers, and the project is expected to take one day to complete. NDOT reminds motorists to drive cautiously through work zones, wear seat belts, and avoid distractions such as cell phones.

US-34 Asphalt Overlay Project Near Haigler

Meanwhile, work on US-34, from reference post 7.80 to reference post 17.26, will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 9. The project, contracted to Werner Construction, Inc. of Hastings, involves a two-inch asphalt overlay. Traffic will be maintained using pilot cars and flaggers, and a 12-foot width restriction will be enforced. The project is anticipated to be completed by December 2024. As with the US-136 project, NDOT advises motorists to drive with caution and stay alert in the work zones.

For both projects, the NDOT stresses the importance of safety, urging drivers to remain mindful of construction workers and to prioritize safe driving habits.
